Nov 14, 2016
WKYT) - There are three flags and a bunch of flowers at the spot where what began as a Friday afternoon of fun for three teens, turned into a tragedy.15-year olds Macie Drake and Abby Gail Curry died after an accident involving Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).“We keep looking for reasons why we had to lose someone so young. With so much life to give,” said Adair County Schools Superintendent Alan Reed.Monday began with a lot of sorrow at Adair County High School where 15-year-olds Macie Drake and Abby Gail Curry were sophomores. The two died in the fiery crash. A passenger, 14-year-old Raquel Anyega, is in critical condition at UK hospital.“The students were very well known. We are a small district with just under 3,000 students. So everybody knows everybody. When one of us hurts, we all hurt,” said Reed.Kentucky State Police are still investigating the crash but they say they believe what happened was the UTV was going across Kentucky 206 from Sanders Ridge Road and didn’t stop, and collided with the Ford F-250 truck.A crisis management team was brought in to help students at the high school. Superintendent Alan Reed a lot of that simply involves listening.“If you need something and you’re a student today. We are going to have help for you,” he said.Teachers say Abby Curry was a sweet, articulate and kind young lady. They say Macie Drake loved people and was always smiling.“It is so hard when you are a parent to lose a child. I can’t imagine what they are going through. But it is also hard as a school to lose one of our own,” Reed said.Officials say professionals from several school districts were brought in to assist the students.According to Grissom Martin Funeral Home, the funeral for Abby Curry will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 CST at Adair County High School. Stotts, Phelps, McQueary Funeral Home says the funeral for Macie Drake will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. CST at the funeral home in Columbia.
